As it is one of the most important things in AFK Journey II, this guide aims to provide players with knowledge, tips and tricks that they would need to have in order to make the best possible teams to advance quickly in the game, climbing to be the top players of the server.

Team Building Fundamentals - What You Need To Know

Team building, team formation and team positioning are important concepts and things players need to take into account whenever they enter each and every stages in the game, whether it be PvE contents such as AFK Stages, Story stages, Boss Challenges or PvP contents such as Arena, it is of immense importance that players know and understand what makes a good team and how to position your heroes correctly to defeat the enemies.

Heroes’ Classes

The first and easiest thing that players need to consider when building a team in AFK Journey II is each individual heroes’ classes and their preferred roles in the battle.

The Heroes in AFK Journey II is divided into 6 different classes:  Warrior, Tank, Marksman, Support, Rogue and Mage.

Warriors are your melee DPS characters, with their skills and abilities focusing on coming in close contact with the enemy to deal damage, they have a fairly balanced combat prowess and survivability.

Tanks are your shields and protections, with their skill focusing heavily on defensive and survivability in exchange for damage.

Marksman are your primary ranged DPS characters, with the majority of them being fragile but have high damage output potential from a long distance.

Supports are heroes that are able to either buffs your team with various beneficial effects that boost their offensive capabilities or provide the team with healing and other effects that boost survivability.

Rogues are versatiles heroes who can move swiftly on the battlefield and pick off weaker enemies on the enemy’s team.

Finally, Mages are your elemental ranged characters that specializes in debuffing the enemies while dealing elemental damage to them.

Having a balanced team with 5 out of 6 classes in a team is highly recommended, with a heavy emphasis on having good supports to buff the team, allowing for an all rounding team when fighting against any enemy team compositions.

Heroes’ Factions

Another important factor to consider when team building is the heroes’ factions and the effects of factions affinity advantages and disadvantages.

There are a total of 4 factions in the game, with all heroes and enemies being assigned to 1 faction each, these are: Lightbearers, Maulers, Graveborn and Wilder. Each of these heroes counters one another in a Faction circle, with the advantaged Faction dealing 15% more damage to the disadvantaged faction and taking 15% less damage from them as well.

It is highly recommended that players build at least 4 different teams of the 4 factions in order to change teams accordingly when combating against the enemies’ factions, allowing the team to take less damage from the enemy while dealing extra damage to them.

Team Formation And Positioning

AFK Journey II is quite a dynamic game in that its battle is fought with a grid based system where players can place up to 5 heroes in a team anywhere on the grid in order for them to engage with the enemies. Enemies’ targeting priority will change according to the players’ choice in heroes positioning. Therefore, it is extremely important for players to fully understand and utilize this fact to maximize their damage output while protecting the more vulnerable damage dealers in the team like Marksman, Mages and Supports.

First and foremost, players need to always put the tank character on the top row, facing the enemies while the ranged characters need to be on the 3rd row, farthest away from the enemies. This will ensure that the enemies’ melee attackers will focus on the tank first, rather than going for the ranged heroes.

Secondly, Warriors and Support Characters should be in the middle of the team to ensure that they can either go up to deal with the enemies in the case of Warriors or be able to support all allies in range in the case of Support characters. This will also help ensure that support heroes don’t get picked off individually by the enemies’ rogues.

Finally, If you are using Rogue characters, place them as close to the enemy line as possible, facing the enemy’s weakest heroes. This is to ensure that the Rogue can swiftly dispatch the weakest link in the enemies’ formation and lessen the enemies’ offensive abilities against your own team.

Recommended Heroes Of Each Classes For Team Building

Warriors

The Warriors suggested above are decently powerful Melee DPS characters that can serves as a buffer between Tanks and Ranged classes heroes, allowing players to deal good amount of damage while also protect the weaker allies in the team.

Tanks

The Tanks suggestions focuses on the hero’s ability to protect the team, either by drawing the enemies’ attention to themselves or by crowd controlling and debuffing the enemy to massively reduce their offensive capabilities and improve the team’s overall survivability

Marksmen

The marksman recommended above falls into the category of being able to either summon familiars to help them fight in battles, essentially doubling the Marksman’s damage output and overall offensive capabilities or those that can provide themselves with special buffs that can boost their own survivability, making it difficult for enemies to defeat them while they deal massive amounts of damage to the enemies from afar.

Supports

The supports suggested are the among the best of the best and have powerful and unique buffs and abilities that make them extremely valuable in any team, allowing them to not only boost the teams’ overall combat capabilities (providing energy and damage buffs in the case of Rowan), improve the team’s overall survivability and making the team’s practically immortal against enemies’ attacks (healing and defensive buffs in the case of Hewynn) or provide the team with unique buffs that no other classes can provide (reviving buffs in the case of Niru).

Mages

The Mages suggested are extremely powerful in their own rights with their abilities to deal Magical damage and inflict various hindering debuffs on the enemies, reducing their combat abilities all the while dealing a decent amount of damage thanks to their debuffs. In the case of Carolina and Viperian, their debuffs stacking on the enemies offers various crowd control and damaging options, allowing them to get rid of the enemies from a safe distance, while Arden are very powerful if the right conditions are met to utilize his powerful spells.

Rogues

As Rogues are generally considered to be a very unique options to bring to teams to defeat weaker enemies faster in order to ensure the team’s victory, the rogues recommended all have their unique abilities and high offensive capabilities to quickly dispatch the weakest link among the enemy, allowing them to fulfill their duty of defeating the most dangerous but vulnerable enemies and allow the team to have a much easier time dealing with other enemies on the battlefield.
