Through the data obtained from the Zenless Zone Zero Amplifying Test and some leaked information, we have been able to obtain some crucial pieces of information regarding how the equipments system in Zenless Zone Zero works and some things players need to be aware of when rolling and equipping W-Engine on the different Agents.

In this article, we will go over important changes and leaked information about how the equipment system in Zenless Zone Zero works and what players need to be aware of when rolling for and equipping Agents with different types of W-Engines.

Zenless Zone Zero - W-Engines Specialties And Passives

The weapons in Zenless Zone Zero, or W-Engines are designed as a very specific type of equipment that Agents can equip onto themselves in order to gain special stat boosts and obtain various beneficial effects to their abilities on field when the W-Engine’s passive conditions are met. However, W-Engines are quite difficult to work with and players need to understand how it works properly to be able to maximize their abilities when they are equipped to an Agent.

W-Engine Specialties

Like how different Agents in the game are divided into special classifications depending on their specialties, the different W-Engines are also assigned different Specialties that players can use as a base to equip the Agents.

Similar to agents, W-Engines are divided into 5 specialties: Attack Defense, Stun, Anomaly and Support. When equipping a W-Engine to an Agent, it is important to equip the same specialty W-Engine onto the Agent that has the same Specialty, otherwise, the W-Engine’s Passive ability will not take effect and players can only get the W-Engine’s stats.

W-Engine Passive

When equipped to the Agents with the same specialties as the W-Engine, the 2nd part of the W-Engine’s ability, the passive, will take effect. Every W-Engine has special effects and these effects revolve around boosting certain stats to the equipped Agents when they are on the battlefield. However, there is an additional condition to these W-Engine passives that players need to take into account.

The passive for W-Engines will only trigger when the first part of its effect - the condition - is fulfilled. For Example: If the W-Engine Passive is “When equipped, using dealing Ether Damage increases all quad Member’s damage against the enemy by 15%”, then that means that in order for allies and the agent to gain the buff, the equipped Agent will have to first deal Ether Damage to enemy. This means that equipping the W-Engine to Agents who can not do the same type of Elemental Damage required to trigger the effect of the W-Engine will make it so that the passive ability of the W-Engine does not activate. So players need to be aware of both the W-Engine’s Specialties and the W-Engine’s passive requirements before equipping them on an Agent.

Drive Disks

In addition to effect revolving around the W-Engines, once a W-Engine has been equipped to an Agent, players can further enhance an Agent’s ability and stats by equipping them with Drive Disks.

These Drive Disks function similarly to Genshin Impact’s Artifacts or Honkai Star Rail’s Relic system, where the different Drive Disks provide the Agents with a main stat increase and several sub stats in order to help the Agent’s overall stats.

The main stats of the Drive Disks are determined by which slot on the W-Engine they are, while the sub stats are randomly determined when the players level up the Drive Disks. The higher the rarity of the Drive Disks, the more stats they will provide and the more sub stats can be obtained through leveling up, helping to boost the power of the Agents further.

The main stats for Drive Disks includes:

- Top Right: Flat HP

- Right: Flat Attack

- Bottom Right: Flat Defense

- Bottom Left: Crit Rate, CRIT DMG, HP%, ATK%, DEF%

- Left: Anomaly Mastery, Element DMG%, HP%, ATK%, DEF%

- Top Left: Anomaly Proficiency, Impact, HP%, ATK%, DEF%

The higher the rarity of the Drive Disk, the more sub stats they can obtain, with S Rank Drive Disk can have up to 4 Sub stats.

Drive Disks can be obtained once players have unlocked the Tuning system in town and they can be obtained by exploring the Hollow Zone and doing the main story quests through commissions and combats.
