Zenless Zone Zero - What You Need To Know About Team Building

As with many other gacha games of the same category and other gacha games made by Mihoyo, team building and team synergies are among the most important factors that players need to take into account when preparing for combat in these games. As such, it is important for players to know all of the important things that need to be considered when building a team to bring into combat in Zenless Zone Zero.

Team Compositions & Positions Priority

In Zenless Zone Zero, unlike other similar games from Mihoyo like Genshin Impact or Honkai Star Rail, players will only be able to deploy up to 3 Agents at the same time in a team, with their positions dictating the order where they will appear on the battlefield. The first position Agent will be the first on field Agent and when using the Switch button, players will be able switch to the other Agents in a cycle.

It is important to note that, when activating a Chain attack, players will have the ability to choose between the 2 other Agents in the team in order to switch to and it will bypass the deployment order of the Agents.

In some specific game modes, the first slot deployment Agent will be assigned the Leader status and players may only use them in combat until they find and add the other Agents back into your roster, so players should pick their Agents and their position with care.

Agents Factions, Elements & Additional Abilities

For every Agents in the game are assigned an element that tells players what kind of special elemental damage and elemental reactions they can inflict when accumulating elemental damage, and for some of the special Agents in the game, they might be from a special faction together and bringing them together will help trigger different special buffs based on how much Agents from the same factions you bring.

Every Agent in the game also has a special buff when they meet certain conditions when being assigned to a team known as Additional Abilities. Every Agent’s additional abilities are different from each other and they can be triggered when they join a squad with another team member who is from the same Faction as them or shares the same element as them.

These Additional Abilities grant the Agent additional buffs and unlock special unique abilities that benefit them if the conditions are fulfilled. Every Additional Abilities are unique only to the Agent and only benefits the Agent, so if players were to make a team, it is highly recommended to try and fulfill the conditions of every Agent in the team so that they can benefit from their Additional Abilities.

Agents Classifications & Roles

Aside from their elements and factions, every Agent in the game is also assigned a special classification or role based on what their kits does and what their main gameplay style is. Every Agent is assigned these classifications and players will need to obtain special materials of each class in order to upgrade them as well.

The classifications of Agents are divided into different classes that specializes in different play styles such as:

- Attack: These Agents are the main DPS of the team and serve as the core of the team to defeat enemies by overwhelming them with their raw damage output.

- Defense: These Agents are mainly focused on tanking enemies’ damage and counter attacking with their skills and abilities. Their stats lean towards more tanky builds with the ability to take hits and Assist other Agents.

- Support: These Agents are made to support other Agents, as their name aptly suggests. They mainly focus on dealing damage while crowd controlling the enemies to enable other Agents to take the field and deal damage to them while they are vulnerable. These Agent’s abilities are quite varied and they can serve multiple different roles in the team depending on how the players build them.

- Stun: These Agents’ main gimmicks lies in their ability to quickly raise the enemy’s Stun gauge, allowing them to quickly fill up the enemy gauge and trigger the special Chain Attack, making the enemy take more damage all the while allowing for more favorable environments to help the other Agents take the field.

- Anomaly: These Agents are the most special among the agents in that their main job and main gimmick is to inflict enemies with special Anomaly Elemental Effects and enhance the damage enemies take when affected by these Anomaly Effects.

An ideal 3 Agents team should focus on combining these different Agent Classifications together and mismatch to bring out the team’s fullest potential.

Bangboo & Support Skills

Finally, aside from the 3 Agents that players are allowed to bring into the fight, players will be treated with an additional 4th member slot that is specially reserved for players to bring in a Bangboo into the field with the Agents.

The Bangboo will offer the team various important passive buffs and will also take the field to deal damage depending on the type of Bangboo that was equipped to the team. Bringing the Bangboo helps boost the team’s overall damage and help players to deal even more damage.

Every Bangboo have a total of 3 different skills that can be triggered depending on the situation, with each skills allowing them to either buff the team or deal damage:

- Active Skill: these skills will trigger when the Bangboo enters the battlefield and they will also trigger when Agents deal damage to enemies, allowing Bangboos to fight alongside them and deal additional damage to the enemies.

- Additional Abilities: Similar to Agent’s Additional Abilities, these Abilities will provide buffs when certain conditions are met in the team. However, unlike Agent’s Additional abilities that only benefit themselves, Bangboo’s Additional Abilities relies on the amount of Agents of the same element or same classification being present in the team, and once fulfilled, offer buffs that benefit the entire team.

- Bangboo Chain Attack: Bangboo Chain attacks triggers when players initiate a Chain attack by filling an enemy’s stun bar. Once triggered, instead of switching to another Agent right away, players can switch into Bangboo, allowing it to do damage to the enemies. Once the Bangboo has done its job, it will trigger another chain attack, allowing players to switch to another Agent and deal even more damage when they take the field.

It is important to note that the game only allows players to bring 1 Bangboo per team, so players should choose their Bangboo accordingly to fit the team’s overall elements and Agents classification.
